Road Dedication
At our 2009 Annual Oak Neck Lane Meeting on April 14 there were a few questions from the residents asking the
ONL Board about the feasibility of dedicating the private roads of the community to the Town of Islip. A former
board member who served this community for over 25 years spoke at the Annual Meeting and outlined some of the
issues that were addressed when this topic was discussed over 20 years ago. Since our community did not have the
most current set of requirements of the town for road dedication the ONL Board formed a subcommittee to look further
into the matter.
The Road Dedication Committee decided the best course of action was to contact the Town of Islip and get the facts
associated with the prerequisites necessary to make the roads public and to have the Town take over the maintenance
of our roads. The ONL Board’s mission is to provide all the facts and issues to the community so we, as a community,
could determine a course of action. As information, the ONL Board had and continues to have no position on road
dedications as the Association does not own property and it’s up to each individual homeowner to make a decision on
the desire to turn the roads over to the town.
Prior to the Annual Meeting, and before the issue was raised by some residents, we contacted the then Town of Islip
Commissioner of DPW Stephan Lapham regarding the status of our roads in the official view of the town. Mr. Lapham
indicated that the roads were not maintained by the town and to contact the Planning Department for the town’s
requirements for dedication. We then contacted Commissioner Eugene Murphy of the Town of Islip Planning
Department whose office directed us to Lisa Andersen an individual responsible for road dedications. Please see the
attached response of the Town of Islip in a letter from Lisa Andersen.
The ONL Board will request that a town official address the community on this matter. In addition, please consult the
website www.onlassociation.com for further developments and other communications from the Board.

Front Entrance Vandalism
On Monday July 6 our landscaper started the summer plantings for the front entrance. When he returned Tuesday
morning to complete the job he discovered that someone had dug up and removed the previous days plantings. The
Suffolk county police department has been called and an investigation is underway. The deli personnel and gas station
attendant across from the entrance have been questioned to find out if they had seen any suspicious activity. As best as
can be determined right now the flowers were stolen between 11:30 PM Monday night and 6:00 AM Tuesday
morning.
Anyone who may have information about this crime is asked to call the Suffolk county 3rd precinct police or contact
any board member (See the Contacts Page of this website).
